Hi Don, Thank you for this question. From my experience there are several layers to the work of solution architects within TUI. Firstly a curiosity for new trends in technology is important as we aim to always find the best solutions for any given problem. We have communities so Solution Architects can discuss new technologies, implementations, ideas and streamline concepts so that we’re having similar processes and integrations across applications, teams and source markets. Therefore we value the ability to reflect on ideas and decisions, discuss with an open mind and maybe go back on past decisions if we feel like there is a better way to do things now. Usually, Solution Architects are responsible for one or a few applications. We create concepts and visuals for new interfaces, micro services and so on that concern our main application(s) and discuss them with the responsible devs. Furthermore we try to identify possible issues in our applications set up by reviewing monitoring and give advice for possible improvement. Since our technical infrastructure is pretty diverse there is no definite answer to what qualities a candidate should bring to the table besides the right mindset and good communication skills as it heavily depends on what application you are caring for. It is generally a good thing to have knowledge about different AWS features, general application design, set-up and infrastructure. Many of us have some kind of background in programming as it helps immensely with concepts. Please let me know if you have further questions.
